The Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden was established in the year 1957. Located within the Hengrabari Reserved Forest, Guwahati.Covering almost 175 Hectares of land as per Central Zoo Authority (Statutory Body Under the Ministry Of Environment and Forests, Govt. of India).
Major species to be found here are the Royal Bengal Tiger, the One horned Indian Rhinoceros, the Himalayan Black Bear, the Stump Tailed - Macaque, the Hoolock Gibbon, Clouded Leopard, Golden Langur, Serows, Binturong, Sambar, Brow Antlered Deer, a variety of avifauna and indigenous reptiles etc..
